How do men and women in the 21st Century communicate? There has been a complete change in the perception of the the role each other plays in society no wonder there is confusion. From the onset of a new relationship there is ‘fear’ of ‘how to play the game’! And before anyone denies there is game playing I’ve yet to be proven wrong.

So who takes the lead, who asks who out, is it okay to call, who decides where to go to eat and who pays the bill? Questions and more questions which leaves both men and women wondering how to get it ‘right’.

The days of the defined role of both men and women has gone and we are left in limbo. We are supposed to be equal but how can that be when we are both so different. We think and act differently so why can’t we celebrate our differences and work more on finding a way to communicate in a manner that will allow us to be really ‘listened’ to. And if we can achieve that then we can begin to move forward in our relationship. There will be bridges being built, recognition of each others thoughts, needs and aspirations – both as individuals and as a couple.

And as women we must not presume that we are the better at expressing our feelings than men – this isn’t necessarly true. We often allow our feelings build up to a point where there is a ‘torrent’ of words -at which point the man switches off and doesn’t engage in ‘conversation’.

It is important to consider ‘setting the scene’ for good communication, conversation will flow and an understanding of each other will follow.

Perhaps if we followed these basic principles our relationships would grow and flourish instead of continuing to seek out our ‘soul mate’ and leaving behind the ‘debris’ of yet another ‘unsuccessful relationship’.

No-one prepares us for parenthood and I wonder why. There is the ‘Congratulations’ on the announcement of the pregnancy – a new life is about to enter the world. But…has anyone sat back and questioned what the impact of this ‘little being’ will have on your life, your relationship? The transition to parenthood is one of the most stressful factors in a relationship and yet it doesn’t appear in the ‘three most stressful experiences of life’. The changes to the family dynamic and how that will impact on the needs and expectations of each other. Isn’t it worth taking a ‘step back’ to analyse, question and listen to each other’s thoughts and feelings. And once the baby is born continue to re-appraise the family dynamics. Is it working for you, as an individual, as a couple and as a family. Only through good dialogue can a relationship flourish and grow. Learning to listen to the unspoken as well as the spoken word. Giving each other space, time alone, time together and time as a family. This, I believe, is the key to the continuing growth of a family unit.

Life coaching is a process designed to encourage you to achieve even greater personal and professional success.

Life coaching is increasingly used by leaders, executives and athletes who want achieve more in their lives. It is for people those who truly desire to live more successfully, helping them to create a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.

Life Coaching is for anyone who wants to use the tools available to them to help them to enrich their lives and experience greater joy and happiness.

Life Coaching originally developed out of athletic and performance coaching, which helped athletes to reach their goals and a Life Coach does for your life what a personal trainer or athletic coach does for your body.

Just as an athletic coach will encourage his client to think about and visualise themselves winning a race so a Life Coach will help you to identify your real priorities and your long-term life goals.

Your Life Coach will ask you questions like: “Who do you want to be in the future and where are you now?”

Life Coaching’s focus is primarily positive, it is about the present and about the future. Together we help you build a vision of your future that is inspiring and achievable. Your Life Coach will help you to work towards your goals and celebrate your success and support you when things don’t go to plan.

Life Coaching typically covers areas such as Life Work Balance, Motivation, Confidence, Life Goals, Career Change, Communication, Stress Reduction, Meaning, Purpose, Personal Vision and Future Success Mapping.

“Life Coaching is the newest, fastest and most effective way to reassess and rework any area of your life. What a personal trainer does for your body; a life coach does for your life.”

-The Guardian

“…a process that enables learning and development to occur and thus performance to improve. To be a successful a Coach requires a knowledge and understanding of process as well as the variety of styles, skills and techniques that are appropriate to the context in which the coaching takes place”

- Eric Parsloe

Life coaching is used by a growing number of psychologists to aid clients with transitions in their personal life, and in the process of self-actualization.

Life coaching draws from a number of disciplines, including sociology, psychology, career counseling, and numerous other types of counseling.
